Katy and David, Grange-over-Sands

Katy and David, Grange-over-Sands

Katy and David got married at Graythwaite Manor Hotel in Grange-over-sands, Cumbria. I love weddings that are all in one place – it’s not right for everyone, but can help the whole day feel very relaxed and not so full of deadlines, which I think helps both the couple and guests feel settled and just get about the business of enjoying themselves!

Katy and David did this very well. I arrived in the morning to find groomsmen, already groomed and in good spirits, various relatives out enjoying the beautiful gardens, and their adorable son having a kip in his buggy. Katy was upstairs with the bubbly and her bubbly bridesmaids preparing. With a second child less than 6 weeks away, Katy had chosen to show off her bump in a beautiful sleek lace gown, and I just loved the silhouette this gave.

As a photographer, the thing I love to photograph more than anything else is expression. More than beautiful light, sumptuous bridal dresses or perfectly colourful bouquets. My heart actually skips a little bit when I first sit down to look through the day’s photos and realise I caught the pinnacle moment of genuine emotion. Katy and David’s wedding gave me so many of these moments, from the hilarity whilst getting ready and the tears during the ceremony to the cheers on finally being wed and the onsuing celebrations – makes me feel privileged to have been invited in to share all those times and document it for them.

One thing I know Katy and David were particularly looking forward to was the band they had picked for the evening: the Matt Wolfe Band. They got everyone up and dancing (from the youngest to the oldest!) and I got to witness some spectacular dance moves! I left the party in full swing – in many ways, the same happy, relaxed state of affairs as when I’d arrived; in other ways, with the most dramatic of all changes having taken place. 🙂
