17 Oct Bus Depot Site – Apple Tree Planting
Earlier, I told you about the Stagecoach Bus Depot demolition and the plans for part of the site to be used for a community food growing project (– have a look back here for the introduction).
Finally, after much delay, there has been movement on the site! Admittedly, not as much as any of us would have liked to have seen by now. It has been a very slow process due to complicated council procedures and other hold ups, but eventually we got our first delivery of plants a few weeks ago: 13 apple trees!
It was hearing the news about the bus depot demolition a few years ago, that inspired local resident, Dan, to dream about an orchard on this site, an idea which led to The Moss Cider Project being born. So it feels fairly significant to be seeing the first signs of that coming into being at last!
A number of residents got together to get the trees planted up in containers, along with a little help from The Challenge young people again.
